About Us
The Society, although National, is based in Cape Town for logistical reasons and boasts a committee which is Nationally representative. There is a huge talent pool within the previously disadvantaged communities and we feel that this should be encouraged to reach its full potential as soon as possible.
With your support we hope to make a difference to horn playing in our country, by providing greater cohesion between the major centres and organising events of value to you and the public. We began our programme with a visit by Andrew Joy, principal horn of the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and one of the truly outstanding soloists of our time.
He performed the Pfluger concerto in Port Elizabeth, and later the Strauss II in Cape Town with the CPO and then at the South African Horn Societies concert, Conucopia at the Groote Kerk in Cape Town. This programme included the impressive "Icy is the World Outside" by Georg Pfluger, the Haydn Second Horn concerto, the Mozart second horn concerto on hand horn by Yuri Zuvanov, and pieces by Windworx, a hot new Wind band on the block.
