25 - 27 April 2008 - 2nd South African Horn Workshop hosted by the Beau Soleil Music Centre, Cape Town


Following the very successful Horn Workshop in Port Elizabeth last year, the SAHS hosted its second workshop in April. The programme was packed with various varied events, catering for players of all ages and competency. The event was also attended by our overseas guest Susan McCullough, who will be hosting this years International Horn Symposium at the Lamont School of Music, Denver, Colorado from 22-27 July 2008. We thank her for he support in this regard.



15 - 17 June 2007 - South African Horn Workshop hosted by the Department of Music, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of Technology


We are pleased to announce that the 1st South African National Horn Workshop 2007, was held at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of Technology, Port Elizabeth. The workshop included players from across South Africa as well some international visitors as well, namely:


Prof. Nancy Joy, Assistant Professor of Horn - New Mexico State University

Ms Susan McCullough, Horn Lecturer - Denver University



17 February 2006 - Frøydis Wekre (Internationally Acclaimed French Horn Soloist) & Cape Town Concert Brass (CTCB)


Frøydis Wekrel performed the Gliere Horn Concerto in B Flat as well as the Rondo from Mozart’s Horn Concerto no 4 in E-flat. The Gliere was performed with piano accompaniment. The CTCB provided the accompaniment for the Mozart. The CTCB also performed selections from their repertoire.



05 November 2005 - Andrew Joy (Internationally Acclaimed French Horn Soloist) & CORNUCOPIA - The Horn of Plenty


Andrew Joy is at the top of his profession and one of the "high profile" international soloists. He is principal with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and has made numerous recordings, including both the pieces listed above. He will perform a number of works as part of a South African Horn Society fund raiser - "Icy is the world outside" composed by Georg Pfluger for String Septet, French Horn, percussion and Tenor to a poem written by Ben Schiller, an autistic poet. In addition he performed Haydn's second horn concerto one of the most beautiful ever written for the instrument. This work was, to date, never performed in South Africa with accompaniement provided by string ensemble.
